“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23
The Premise
God made and loves you.
God is our Heavenly Father who desires His children to live in His home forever. We begin as babies in a state of moral innocence. To die in a state of innocence means to remain in God’s presence forever. (Romans 5:8, 1 John 4:19)
The Problem
The bad news is that sin separates you from God.
As we grow older and become more aware of God’s Laws on our conscience and in Scripture, we become accountable to obey, yet all choose sin (Romans 3:23).
Wages: earning what we’re justly due
Sin: defying God through disregard, disbelief, & disobedience
Death: spiritual separation from God now and permanently in hell
But: God offers a solution
The Remedy
The Good News (Gospel) is Jesus Christ redeems and reconciles you to God.
Gift: we’re saved BY GRACE (a Gift Received At Christ’s Expense), not by anything we DO to deserve it – like climbing the stairs of good works, moral improvement, or religious effort – but by what’s already been DONE for us (Ephesians 2:8).
Jesus Christ: He was the Son of God who became human, lived a perfect life, purchased the gift by paying for your sin through His sacrificial death on the cross (redeemed) and restored your relationship to God [reconciled]. He rose from death as proof of His claims (Romans 5:1, 8:1, 1 Timothy 2: 4-6). The cross acts as the bridge to life.
Believe and confess....
…that Jesus is God’s Son and your “Christ” (Messiah, Savior). [Romans 10:9 & 13, John 1:12, Matthew 16:16]
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
Change...
…your mind/attitude to be remorseful and now be rid of sin. Make a U-turn from “my way” to “God’s way” [Romans 2:4, Luke 5:32, 13:3]
“Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” – Acts 2:38
Be immersed...
…in water to be united with Jesus in His death, burial and resurrection. This becomes the place where you receive the promises. [Romans 6:4, Acts 22:16, Mark 16:16]
1. Forgiveness of sins – our consciences are cleansed as our sins are washed away.
2. Eternal life – our old life is dead and buried, and we rise to new life! Our afterlife with God is assured as long as we’re commited to following Christ.
3. The Gift of the Holy Spirit – we’re indwelt by God himself who begins transforming us to become more like Jesus, grow a godly life in obedience, and do good works as evidence – not to get saved, but because we are saved.
A disciple is someone TRUSTING Jesus for salvation & being TRANSFORMED to be like Jesus.
TRUSTING
Being saved by grace through faith with repentance in baptism .
TRANSFORMED
Striving to go the way, know the truth, & live the life of Christ.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:6
This offer is both inclusive (for everyone) and exclusive (the only way home to God). He alone offers the truth that sets us free and the abundant life that’s forever. (Acts 4:12, John 8:32, John 10:10, 14:9)
