Adoption Fund

To help make it possible for Christian couples to adopt

We want to encourage more adoptions because this is a way we can care for orphans (James 1:27), and give more children the chance to be raised in the training of the Lord. To help make it possible for Christian couples to adopt, we would like to assist in paying the associated costs which can be prohibitive or a discouraging obstacle.

Because God designed the family and for children to need both a father and mother, we seek to promote two-parent adoptions. However, a single parent’s application will be considered based on exceptional circumstances.

These funds will go directly to families within Southpoint Church as first priority and to other Christians in the Downriver region who meet our requirements.

Requirements for Couples:

  • Must be a husband and wife married for at least 1 year. The time requirement is to establish marital stability and prevent hasty decisions.
  • Must be “evangelical” Christians, that is, born again (saved by grace through faith in Christ alone, immersed into Christ) and accepting the Bible’s authority, holding to sound doctrine and holy living. The historic Apostles’ Creed is the basis of such a faith statement. [see below]
  • Must be involved in a local “evangelical” church for at least 1 year. This establishes a stable spiritual home.

Apostles’ Creed (ecumenical, interdenominational version):

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day, he rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic [that is, universal] Church, the communion of the saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Grant Amount:

The cost of adopting varies greatly based on the agency used, the type of adoption, and other personal factors. For example, foster care adoptions cost less than private adoptions, and domestic adoptions cost less than international adoptions. Be reminded that additional adoption grants may be available from other sources.

Grants will vary in amount based on family need, current stage in the adoption process, and current balance in the Adoption Fund. The minimum amount awarded will be $1,000, with a maximum amount of $10,000. No need to show financial need is required. However, preference with limited funds will be given to those with financial need.

We do not pay directly to the applicants but to the agency.

How to Apply:

  • Complete the Application Form
  • An interview by Southpoint’s Elders or Ministers may be required.
  • Two references may be required.
  • Once the application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted within two weeks.

What areas have you struggled with in the past? *
Affirm that you are willing to commit to confidentiality with program participants. *
Confidentiality is crucial to the healing and recovery process. For participants to feel comfortable opening up and being honest, they have to feel confident that their information will not be discussed outside of Thrive groups. This is an absolute requirement!
What kind of involvement would you be interested in? *
Some examples would be leading small breakout groups for specific struggle areas, worship, setup/teardown/cleanup, follow up calls, etc.

Birth through 2 years

Idea 1

Begin praying for your little one now! Whether you’re feeding or rocking your child to sleep, start praying for them from their head to their toes!
Head to Toe Prayer:

Idea 2

Pray scripture over your child! Here’s an example: (Psalm 23:6) May goodness and mercy follow (insert child’s name) all the days of their life and may (insert child’s name) dwell in the house of the Lord forever!

Idea 3

Begin a daily prayer journal. Each day, write a small prayer for your child. When they are older, they will be able to look back and see all the prayers you have prayed over them through the years!
