Brett’s Friday Blog Post

When two of the biggest & most controversial online media commentators get together for a 3-hour chat, you know something interesting is going to come out of it. Joe Rogan’s interview this past week with Tucker Carlson didn’t disappoint. One of the most interesting things was their brief discussion about evolution. While this episode has been mostly ignored by the mainstream press (with even accusations of censorship by YouTube), it has “broken the internet” (as they say). Meanwhile, scientific “experts” began mocking Carlson for daring to question whether evolution is real & suggesting that it’s been debunked.

Here’s the relevant conversation:
Rogan: “Evolution is real….”
Carlson: [interrupting] “Is it real?”
Rogan: “I don’t know. But it’s visible. You can measure it in certain animals.”
Carlson: “You can measure adaptation, but…I think we’ve kind of given up on the idea of evolution. The theory of evolution as articulated by Darwin is, like, kind of not true.”
Rogan: “…In what sense?”
Carlson: “Well, in the most basic sense, that idea that…all life emerged from a single cell organism and over time and there would be a fossil record of that, and there’s not.”
Rogan: “There’s not a fossil record of, uh, transitionary species, like, species that are adapting to its environment?”
Carlson: “There’s tons of record of adaptation, and you see it in your own life. I mean I have a lot of dogs. I see adaptation in dogs through…litter to litter. But no, there’s no evidence at all that, none, zero, that…people…evolve seamlessly from a single-cell amoeba. No, there’s not, there’s not. There’s no chain in the fossil record of that at all, and that’s why you…hear them make reference to evolution because the theory of adaptation is clearly obviously true. But Darwin’s theory is…still a theory almost 200 years later. …I have my own theories on it, but they’re not proven.”
Rogan: “What are your theories?”
Carlson: “God created people distinctly….”

While some call Carlson ignorant because they claim evolution is established fact, the truth is that he was right about the fossil record. Changes through adaptations within species, known as “microevolution,” are observable. But no evidence exists for “macroevolution”–one species developing into another. There are no “missing links” despite the claims of “scientists” offering wild speculations about a minuscule amount of fossils.

Look at these quotes from prominent intellectuals in honest moments of confession:
* Prof. Louis T. More: “The more one studies paleontology (the fossil record), the more certain one becomes that evolution is based on faith alone.”
* Prof. D.M.S. Watson observed that evolution is a theory universally accepted, “not because it has been observed to occur or can be proved by logically coherent evidence to be true, but because the only alternative–special creation–is clearly incredible.”
* Sir Arthur Kent: “Evolution is unproved & unprovable. We believe it because the only alternative is special creation which is unthinkable.”

Why do so many believe in evolution? Because that’s the only thing they’re taught. They’re given no other options or evidence. I think it’s probably true that there have been more cases of people rejecting faith in God & in the Bible that can be traced to the theory of evolution than anything else. Yet, numerous scientists & intellectuals agree that there IS a “God who made the world and everything in it” (Acts 17:24).

You don’t have to commit intellectual suicide to believe the Bible, or to be afraid to confront the inconsistencies & fallacies of evolutionism. Dr. J. Budziskewski, an ethics & philosophy professor at the University of Texas, wrote, “It wasn’t for theological or biblical reasons that I began to develop doubts (about Darwinism). It was for scientific reasons–purely, exclusively. I looked at the data. I spent more than a year reading both pro- & anti-Darwinist accounts & discovered that the Darwinist explanations don’t explain what they purport to explain.”

Remember when Supreme Court Justice Jackson was asked during her confirmation hearing to define what a woman is? With all her esteemed education, she replied, “No, I can’t…I’m not a biologist.” You don’t have to be a biologist to see what’s obvious to any person of average intelligence. In the same way, you don’t have to be a scientist to understand “that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible” (Heb. 11:3). We know it instinctively by looking at nature (Rom. 1:18-22). It’s obvious.

But it is by faith, just like the evolutionists have faith–only it takes more faith to believe in evolution than Creation because it makes more sense to believe in Creation than evolution. A frog turning into a prince still sounds like a fairy tale whether it takes a second or a billion years.
